Milo |
M I L O |
This tree is called milo and is thought to be indigenous although possibly is an early Polynesian introduction. Called Portia tree in some places, Milo is an Old World species (Asia/Africa) that grows mostly in low-lying coastal areas. Milo seeds prolifically and readily establishes at Nā Pōhaku o Hauwahine. The tree is relatively fast-growing and easily propagated from seed. The large, yellow flowers open in the morning and slowly darken throughout the day. An abundant tree at Nā Pōhaku o Hauwahine. Esteemed by the Hawaiians for making wood carvings. |
