Kilohana is the wahi nānā or lookout—the high viewing place of Nā Pōhaku o Hauwahine at the summit of the massive pōhaku (rock) forming the spine (kua) of the park. From here you have an expansive view of the Kailua Ahupua‘a, with Kawai Nui Marsh dominating all of the ground beyond the park. The sweep to the north through east is of Kailua from Coconut Grove through downtown to Castle Memorial Hospital. Behind Coconut Grove is Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base. Towards the mountains (mauka) is Maunawili Valley just behind the distinctive peak called Olomana.

Information display boards explain much about this place and the marsh below. These display boards were provided as a consequence of Kawai Nui becoming a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. Kawai Nui is the largest wetland in Hawai‘i and in ancient times was a large open body of water (left area) and expansive kalo fields (right area).

From here you can descend to the Piko via the trail to the west, or take the stairway on the north side down to Ki‘i mo‘o (lizard image) and the Kua Trail that runs along the ridgeline below the lookout. To explore the north slope of the park, turn left at the base of the rock; to head towards the marsh, turn right. Either way, all the trails connect into a series of many loops covering the 13 acres of park
