The Na Pohaku Ecology Group (NPEG) is a subgroup within ‘Ahahui Mālama i ka Lōkahi that is especially active maintaining trail, clearing weeds, planting native species, and developing the QR Guides (an example of which you are now reading) at Nā Pōhaku o Hauwahine state park reserve. The group operates mostly on the north side of the piko and meets year round every Saturday, starting about noon to 5 pm. The group is small and welcomes volunteers. Training and education is offered, and persons wishing to come regularly and able to differentiate between the native and non-native flora can set their own work schedule. Nothing more than respect for the ‘aina and personal enjoyment are expected of any volunteer. Work at your own pace and do what you most enjoy Volunteers should wear proper clothing (shoes, long pants, maybe gloves) and bring snacks and plenty of water. Tools will be provided, but you can bring a favorite pick or weeding tool, or maybe garden clippers. USEFUL WEB LINKS: |
